Hi, this is Patrice Badami, with acorn tree children’s book review, and today I’m going to be sharing with you a book called I Am odd I am new by Benjamin Gero. It’s a book that actually began with an assignment for Benjamin’s fifth grade classroom. And here’s a little bit I wanted to read you about it. This is what Benjamin hoped to convey in his fifth grade poem about what it’s like to live with autism. Inspired by a school assignment, his raw and emotional words poured out onto the page. But when Benjamin feared they were not any good, his parents shared the poem with friends and family. Little did they know it would go viral, and ended up inspiring 1000s of strangers who identified with him to share their support. So this, this story is his words, his account of what it’s like to have autism, and how he tries to assimilate into his classroom with his peers, and realizes that his uniqueness is actually an amazing thing and an important thing, because everybody has differences. Everybody has their own opinion. And it’s important to be yourself in relish in the fact that you have differences with from other people. Enjoy that and listen to this book is going to inspire you and help children to understand and have empathy towards children with autism and other differences. So see if you can find this book. Once again. It’s called I Am odd. I am new. It’s by Benjamin Gero. See if you could find it. It’s a very inspirational story.
